This archive focuses on the beauty of the natural world especially alpine, desert, and coastal environments. Many of the photos were taken during geologic, trekking, rock climbing, white water rafting, or bike touring adventures mainly in California and the Western United States but also in Europe, Asia and South America. Some photos have been annotated with relevant information about geology or about specific landforms. Many of the geology related photos have been posted to the Earth Science Teaching Resource Group. Albums are organized based on geography (e.g., Bavaria) or activity (e.g., rock climbing) themes.

 

Pre-digital 35 mm slides were taken in the 1980s-1990s using a Minolta camera with a 28mm-200mm Tokina lens and then scanned using a slide scanner. Recent digital photos were taken using 3 different cameras: 1) Canon EOS Rebel XS digital SLR camera with a Tokina 11mm-16mm wide angle lens and a Canon 75mm-300mm zoom lens, 2) Fuji XP waterproof digital camera, and 3) a GoPro7 digital camera with 4K resolution. Some photos have been digitally enhanced. Additionally, I have included some videos taken with my GorPro7. More videos can be found on my YouTube channel:

The climbing photography includes some of the finest moderate free routes in the Sierra Nevada also known as the "Range of Light."
