I live in Brighton on the south coast of England and have always been interested in images; I studied History of Art - many years ago now.

I particularly admire the Modernist photography of the 1930s, also the more traditional images from Stieglitz's Camera Work. On a more contemporary note I really like Sue Bishop's macro/abstract flowers and the flower and butterfly images by the Norwegian photographer Magnar Børnes.

You may have noticed that these preferences are not necessary reflected in my own photography. Well, I'm working on it... Many pictures are simply a product of walks along Brighton seafront which is close to where I live. However, I do also enjoy still lifes, sometimes it's just a question of coming up with a good idea. I usually photograph objects rather than people, as objects are not self-conscious.

I have started photographing central Brighton. My aim is find interesting views of familiar places, even the more mundane ones. Most picture books on Brighton focus on Regency architecture, the Lanes, graffiti and the seafront, but there is a great deal more than that, it's just a bit of a challenge. I have started with the more picturesque bits, and If I ever manage to make Churchill Square an interesting photographic subject, I will know anything is possible.

I'm always pleased to hear from people with similar interests, so do drop me a line or leave a comment.
