I like wildlife and domestic animals, dramatic scenery and interesting light, historical structures and objects, color, and cultural activities. And charming candid portraits. I'm based in the photogenic Rocky Mountain West of the United States, and am active in the Camera Club of Bozeman, Montana, thanks to which I've been able to substantially hone my skills and knowledge. Which is not to say I don't have a long way to go, with the support of my peers and my Flickr friends.

My most recent photographic challenge is the transition from high quality, but crop-sensor Nikon bodies with superb Tamron lenses (16-300 and 150-600) to Sony full-frame mirrorless bodies and Sony lenses with similarly versatile ranges (24-240 and 200-600). I'm certainly loving the full frame format, but the muscle memory that allowed quick settings with my Nikons is only gradually "getting" the location of Sony controls. Guess it keeps you young to learn something new, especially if it's a little difficult! And there are a lot of quirks to discover and in some cases, compensate for, with my new rigs.

I always share my full EXIF data, and encourage everyone to do so, I think it can be very instructive, but cannot result in anyone reproducing work because moments photographed can never be duplicated by settings alone.

I also try to add useful tags to my posts so my images can be searched. I've so often searched Flickr for images of things and places, and want to return the favor should anyone want to see subject matter I've photographed.

I greatly appreciate comments and conversations, including constructive criticism and all contributions of information about the subjects of my photos. I appreciate as well group invites, but please know that generally, I avoid groups that use comment codes, and rules like post-one-award-two, thanks anyway!

Speaking of groups, please visit, enjoy the posts, and contribute if you have suitable material (but please read the descriptions first) these groups that I administer:
