VCU Libraries is delighted to join the community of institutions sharing their image collections here on the Flickr Commons. Being part of this active, innovative community that aims to share and contribute knowledge to a growing public image collection is strongly aligned with our educational mission, and we look forward to contributing to this great project.

About our digital collections

VCU Libraries collections include prints, works of art, significant historic and medical artifacts, archives and manuscripts, maps and rare books and periodicals. Our libraries also house one of the nation’s largest collections of comic arts, book art, alternative newspapers and zines.

The bulk of our shared items come from VCU Libraries Special Collections and Archives, but VCU Libraries also digitizes and makes available other collections in partnership with local institutions.

We'll be updating our Commons stream with many of these items, but in the meantime you can also sample the wide array of digitized collections that include photographs, newspapers, manuscripts, comics and oral histories in VCU Libraries Digital Collections.

We very much encourage comments and insight into our collections presented here on the Commons, but we ask that you use good judgment and play nice when submitting a comment. Finally, VCU Libraries digitizes and makes available a wide range of historical resources in pursuit of our educational mission. These sources may contain stereotypes, imagery or offensive language that reflect the context of the time and place in which they were created.
