I am a landscape and wildlife fine art photographer. For more than 20 years, I have been a photo enthusiast taking classes and workshops in my spare time. In 2019, I moved to St. George, Utah where I can spend full time exploring and photographing this beautiful area. All my photographs are for sale as prints. Artist's Bio:
Van Strohm was born in Santa Monica, CA, and grew up with his family who took many drives and family vacations throughout the western states. By the time Van graduated college with a degree in physics, he had a burning desire to explore the deserts and mountains of the western United States, especially southern Utah and the desert southwest. Pressures to start a career and raise a family, however, interfered with that desire. Instead, with a physics and engineering background, he established a very successful career in Software Engineering in Silicon Valley.
It wasn’t until his 40’s that Van had enough spare time to find interests outside of work when he found a photography workshop going to the Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mountains of California. He jumped at the opportunity and signed up. That workshop was led by Steve Kiser, an excellent photographer and teacher, through the local community college in Los Altos, CA. He found it so interesting that he signed up for classes at the community college, learning black and white film photography, composition, and printing techniques. He also joined the photography club at the college. Later, when his instructor retired, Van took over running that very same Bristlecone Pine workshop for the photography club.
Van has been a photo enthusiast now for 20+ years. In 2019, with his son grown up, he decided it was time to finally pursue his passion, so he retired and moved with his wife to St. George, Utah where they have both spent full time exploring, hiking, and photographing this beautiful area. His focus has always been the natural world, photographing natural landscapes and wildlife. It would be nice to travel further, and sometimes he does, but southern Utah and nearby locations are so interesting and so varied that he mostly stays close by, continuing to explore this wonderful place he calls home.
