A mentor, an inspiration, AMAZING! Family members can affirm these character traits as fact, but when a man can inspire these descriptions in everyone he meets it is something to behold. Bobby is one of those people whose hard work and tireless dedication makes you want to be a better photographer... and more. I could gush on and on about how amazing Bobby is, but seeing his work will do that on it's own. I'll just say that as a photographer, Bobby amazes you. As a person, he will inspire you. And as a friend... he will never let you down. You rawk, buddy!

Bobby Alcott. So many words 2 say about him in so few sentences (let alone the lack of time). Photgrapher, musician, down to earth at that. His talents are BEYOND definition. I've only known him for the better part of this past year though I feel like I've known him way longer. How he nails his subjects-including his self-portraits-is just right from dimension to dimension, from perspective to perspective. Like I've said about Paul Hitz and Stephen Boyle, Alcott also is to the lens what Rivera and Pollock were to canvas. They share so much in common; passion, grace, and split second shooting that just as vivid and as sharp as a southpaw boxer with lightning fast right hook, and when his opponent least expects it, he throws in that mean left hook! That's Bobby Alcott in a nutshell. You'll never know when, where, or even HOW he'll get one [picture, that is] in, but when he shares it with the world wide web, it's laid out for ALL to see in amazement. As a photographer, Bobby has an amazing eye. His beautiful compositions seem simple at first glance, until you actually sit back and take in everything there is within each shot. You can actually see how much work goes into making things look effortless. His mastery of lighting befuddles the mind. Many of his photograph's defy the adage "a picture is worth a thousand words", trading at a much higher premium. As a man, if more people were like him, the world would be better place. Within moments of meeting him, you can sense a pure heart with the truest of intentions. He'll capture your interests with tales from around the globe, all the while having a genuine interest in your professional development. You'd be hardpressed to find a more selfless person.

I have testimonial-envy when I read UT's page, but I thought I'd add mine anyway. On the eve of his big solo show for the EXPOSURE.Detroit group, let me lay the compliments on thick to a man who has truly earned it with his Nikon in hand. There are some amazing photographers on Flickr whose work constantly reminds me of how much I still need to learn. However, there aren't a lot of people whom I would call "an inspiration" ...but Bobby is one of them. He is never afraid to experiment and have fun doing it. Bobby's acute sense of style and beauty is evident in his photo stream. He has an unbelievable knack for catching the beauty in the everyday as well as the strange. Some of his photos creep up on you slowly while others hit you right in the stomach. His amazing photographs push me to try harder and his friendship and mentorship has literally pulled me back into my love for photography at a time when I was not slowing down to enjoy the beautiful details of life. He has been instrumental in helping me take the leap into serious photography, and for that I cannot thank him enough! That said, it was only natural that our wives introduce us to each other because Bobby and I also mirror each other in our political, creative, and family life. He's not only a great "pixel composer," but a great man.

For several months, this testimonial has been incubating... As I have tried to connect words with what I feel towards Bobby, I've come to the realization that trying to write something that hasn't been already written (i.e., the other testimonials on this page) is virtually impossible. I've met Bobby exactly once (as of 15 July 2005) and that meeting secured for me the notion that Bobby is the real deal. This world could really use a couple more billion people like Bobby.

Why the hell didn't I write this earlier? There is hardly a word or phrase that can accurately describe Bobby as well as "awesome." His pictures speak for themselves. They are deep, thoughtful, nostalgic, and ultimately beautiful. And by browsing his photostream you may be able to surmise my next assertion: Bobby is an amazing person. There really is no other way to put it. I have never met (although the "in person" part is yet to be realized, but don't worry, it will) a person with such a passion for the good parts of life. If there's one thing that I have learned from Bobby it is that life may be full of disgusting politics, ugly confrontations, depressing and detrimental circumstances, but despite this, there is a reason to look outside and say to yourself "life is good." Bobby seems to treat life as if he were singing a really good song. It's going to end sometime, but while you can, you might as well soak it up and record yourself doing it.

When I first saw Bobby's shots of Detroit, they were moving, powerful and melancholy. The shots seem to speak to the beauty and tragedy that is Detroit: once the center of empire, now a city trying to figure out what its future is. Not too much commentary was provided, and I wondered what kind of guy he was... bitter former auto worker? Inner-city tough? Then he posted pics of his wife and little girl and it was clear he was a big-hearted loving dad and husband who is able to see beauty in many things. He captures great moments, whether his beautiful daughter laughing or a homeless person in abject despair. In either case, the pics are always interesting, frequently moving and very well-shot. I'm always looking forward to his postings. Keep on shootin', bro!

That child just outside your window, squealing with delight, while pushed on the swing set by a parent, this is Urbantiki’s photostream. One life imposing itself upon another. One life capturing the inexplicable aesthetic, the secret charm and previously discarded immortality of the world around, capturing the good, the bad and the not necessarily ugly. One life revealing certain social truths in regards to existence. There is still some life left in that decrepit, isolated old building too early lain to rest. There is still life in a solitary man, devoid of all earthly possessions, forced to roam the streets in search of sustenance. There is still life in the antiquated, the dilapidated, the forgotten. There is a light in his daughter’s eyes that can only be explained after prolonged exposure to Bobby’s photography. That same light which graces his daughter’s classic face shines right through his lens; inspired, optimistic, puerile wonder at the world around yet to be explored and prematurely deemed inaccessible. Bobby’s photostream outlines a life lived well, but more importantly, it possesses life. Oh yeah…and he’s a kick ass vocalist!

Yet. :) I have the most respect for someone when they stand up for what they believe in - regardless of whether I agree or not - and Bobby has certainly earned my respect. Going through his photostream is quite possibly what makes my day! Whether it's a shot of his wonderful family or a shot of dowtown Detroit, the man is a genius.
