Under The Baobab Tree, Inc. (UTBT) is an international nonprofit 501 (c) 3 organization that is dedicated to the redevelopment of impoverished communities in rural Africa. We have created a sustainable platform for community development through education, volunteerism, community involvement, renewable resources, and cottage industries. UTBT has redefined the traditional NGO support structure through its multifaceted solution of providing a comprehensive education as the primary tool to help eradicate poverty and supply long-term and inexhaustible solutions to ongoing problems. Much like the ancient Chinese fishing proverb says, we believe that teaching is more valuable than mere handing over. Instead of handing over, we aim to educate the villages on how to use and properly implement the renewable resources necessary so that a sustainable community can cultivate and maintain itself. It is our mission to employ the gift of knowledge as a transmittable tool that will eventually expand on its own to various villages and regions through a micro-world of cottage industries. The Namaso Bay School is our first project of many. Now, we are searching for like-minded individuals with creative solutions, volunteers, and funding to help us complete our first initiative. It is our hope that Namaso Bay will serve as a stepping stone for future endeavors so that we may begin the lifelong process of teaching a man to fish and forever changing the most destitute regions of the world one village and one child at a time.
