Vivek "UBIK" Premachandran

'Ubik', derived from the word ubiquitous meaning "everywhere", hints at the

possibility of a dual existence.

Vivek is an autodidact when it comes to his art. His mediums of choice are pen, markers, , watercolor pencils, and virtually any available scribbling surface, mainly paper or wood.

His works explore the space within the psyche of the child inside everyone.Exploring themes/ideas of existentialism, death , magic realism , juxtaposed patterns , tribal art, deconstruction, and the after life, he references pop and urban culture in his work. Infusing the patterns of realism around him, he questions the need for reasons behind imagery and the subsequent emotions that invoke the most random cheap thrills in people.

Vivek has worked as a Graphic Artist for Whitespace Design Studio, and as is the Founder, Art Director and Editor of Cliché Art 'zine'. whitespace-designs.blogspot.com

In June 2008 Vivek conceived and curated the first urban/underground art exhibition in dubai: 'In a Box' at the Traffic Gallery, Dubai.

Vivek is heavily influenced by the works of Barry Mcgee, MARS1,Blu, Saner, Nunca, Mookiena, Os Gemeoes, Joe sacco, Turbo, Hell o Monsters, San, Dem, Klimt, Van Gogh, Geroges Seurat, Audrey Beardsley, Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Hebert Baglione and a lot more.
