THIS COLLECTION IS MOVING! Texas State University Libraries will be sunsetting this Flickr collection soon as all images are moving to our new Digital Collections platform. We have done our best to preserve in the new system all comments and information left here by our very industrious users of this site. Thank you so much to the community for your help in identifying so many images! To view the images in the new space, follow this link to the TXST Digital Collections.

In January 2016, the San Marcos Daily Record donated approximately 800,000 photographic negatives to the Special Collections and Archives at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. The negatives span eight decades, from the mid-1930s to the 2000s. In 2017, the University Libraries received a Texas State Library and Archives TexTreasures Grant, funded by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, to begin digitizing this window into San Marcos history. Digitizing the negatives will take several years and this site will grow as more of the collection is digitized.

These images span a number of decades and cover a variety of subjects. Some of these materials may include content that some viewers find objectionable, including images, language, and the presence of negative stereotypes. It is essential to remember that these materials should be viewed in the context of the relevant time period in which they were created. Please refer to the University Archives historical context statement..

Testimonials

They represent a treasure trove of San Marcos, Texas, area history. Many were taken during my childhood and my brother and I are in some of them along with many, many fondly remembered friends. Thank you for saving and making available to the public all these valuable photos.
