I live on San Marcos Pass on top of the mountains behind Santa Barbara, California. I`ve lived here for 40+ years now. Most of these photos are close to home. As a long-time naturalist and teacher, I take 1000s of photos to "document the flora". I`m fussy with names and dates because I have a database in the works. I posted photos on Fotolog for many years at www.fotolog-us.com/treebeard/ but recently moved to Flickr..
My camera is now a Nikon D800 with Nikkor 105mm micro and 18-200mm lenses, and a Tamron 200-500mm telephoto. I use an old version of PSP to do some darkroom stuff with curves and contrast and cropping. That`s it.

I really love Treebeard's photostream, as his photos evoke a real feeling and knowledge of place, in the sense expressed by the poet Gary Snyder. i also feel a kinship in that we are/were/forever will be science teachers, in the best sense of the word. Maybe because I am a specialist, I have a great fondness for the breadth of knowledge of place that is so evident in Marc's photos. Long my you roam the hills!
Read lessI love to browse Marc's photostream. There are always many things to look at, and I appreciate all of the information Marc provides in his photo descriptions. It's one of the best photostreams on Flickr for our local native flora and fauna here on the California Central Coast.
