I am a 35 year old photographer living in Boston. My degree is in journalism, and I completed an intensive photojournalism course while in the Navy, which is what really piqued my interest in good photography.

I dabble in whatever styles of photography interest me -- and that which I can afford. I've tried everything from capturing star trails and nighttime skylines to event photography. That has been the most profitable for me, undoubtedly a result of my pj experience (getting usable photos with clearly identifiable people in them). I'm a born experimenter, and even though my experiments often produce abysmal results, I learn from them.

My toughest work has been photographing drag queens performing in nightclubs. Dark and smoky rooms, bright spotlights that may or may not be on the subject at the moment, pronoun problems galore ... at least it's not boring. And I've yet to meet a drag queen who didn't want "her" photo taken. Ever.

I shoot mostly with a Canon Rebel XTi and a 28-135 USM IS lens. I also own a Canon EOS 620--one of the original batch of EOS cameras, but still an excellent piece of machinery--with a 35-135mm USM EF lens. It's old, it's heavy, and it keeps me in shape toting it around with me. My second lens on both cameras is a 50mm 1.8 prime -- inexpensive, but utterly simple and a wonderful lens to play with. My collection of vintage cameras is ever-growing, and my goal is to get them all refurbished so I can play with them as well. Again, experimentation comes to the fore.

Most importantly, whenever possible, I have a good time with my camera. And isn't that the most important thing?
