I first started experimenting with making things from old rubber lorry inner tubes in 2004 after seeing a recycled handbag in a shop in Whitby. Unfortunately mine didn't turn out quite the same as I found the material impossible to stitch on a household sewing machine and too thick to glue, so I began making them by hand, punching holes into the rubber and fastening together with lacing. Since then recycled and eco friendly fashion has become increasingly popular, so I'm revisiting the project and having another go using whatever old rubbish I find.
