Writer / Director living in Los Angeles. For several years, I deliberately set aside my camera, after reading this passage from Annie Dillard's "Pilgrim at Tinker Creek":
"When I walk with a camera I walk from shot to shot, reading the light on a calibrated meter. When I walk without a camera, my own shutter opens, and the moment’s light prints on my own silver gut."
It was good for me, learning to experience the moment rather than documenting it. Though I still wish I had taken a few shots at Machu Pichu :-)
