Email From Tenant Who Is Moving:
Dear Len & Carol,
Here are some photos of the backyard riverview at our Toccoa River Haven, as this house has been for us these past 3 years. We planned to live here as long as my mother was alive. Now that she has moved on to her new Home, so shall we, but with fond memories of our river view, and the time spent enjoying the tranquility & peace of this unique, beautiful place.
There are fewer sights more memorable than watching the fire-flies lighting up the river & the trees overhead on summer nights, reflecting in the water below, like tiny blinking Christmas lights everywhere we looked!... or the family of otter swimming by like porpoises, pausing only for a moment to observe us, before diving after the school of fish they were following. The mist rises from the river in the cool mornings, then evaporates as the sun comes up over the mountain tops. The Canada geese swoop in, sometimes in pairs, sometimes as a flock, & land on the glassy surface, then swim over to feed along the river's edge, and up into the pasture on the other side. In the summer, goslings follow behind their protective parents, and we enjoy watching them grow over the following weeks, and learning to fly. Later in the summer, Mallard ducklings can be seen in abundance, swimming alongside their parents, and among the geese who help protect them. They all swim over to sample the bread we throw into the water for them, and we can get a closer look at the downy babies.
At night, we listen to the beaver gnawing on the bamboo across the river, and we occasionally see one tracking across the water, a V forming in it's wake.
We begin our mornings & unwind in the evenings by the river, enjoying the ever changing view. We will treasure these memories, and hope that others will share them as well.
We thank you for providing this haven for us -- we thought making the transition from New Orleans to "Mayberry" would be difficult, but we have grown to love it up here, and are making it our home "Happily Ever After".
From our first day here -- arriving on July 4th, and watching the fireworks that night across the river from the backyard -- we knew this place was special. It afforded us close proximity to my mother & sister's home nearby, & to our studio in town, as well as the surrounding communities. It was especially fun to put a canoe in at nearby Horseshoe Park & paddle to our own backyard! Tubing enthusiasts would also enjoy living here. Our neighbors like to come fishing off of the stone deck we built, with it's steps leading down to the water's edge, and nooks & crannies to sit on & enjoy the view.
