Toby Deveson has been taking photographs since 1989 when he was given an old Nikkormat and a 24mm lens. After trying a friend's darkroom he set up one of his own in a damp basement and was soon addicted to the alchemy of intoxicating smells and mysterious light. Twenty years later not much has changed. The darkroom is no longer damp but the camera and lens are the same.

Toby has exhibited all over Britain including in Norwich, Lincoln, Brighton and London. He has produced work for organisations as diverse as The British Red Cross, The National Farmers Union and Brighton Council as well as photographing for bands, clothing catalogues and charities.

He is currently working on self publishing his first book 'West of the Sun', a collection of black and white landscape photographs which will also be accompanied by a touring exhibition. Please get in touch if you are interested in helping to finance the book and/or the exhibition, either through donations or through the purchase of a print.

Toby also works and makes a living as a freelance TV Camera man specializing in multi-camera studio and OB work. He is comfortable working hand-held, on peds or with a long lens and has many years experience broadcasting live to audiences of millions on all of britain's major terrestrial channels. He has extensive knowledge of working on magazine shows, cookery shows, live music and reality. Credits include Saturday Kitchen, Richard & Judy, Big Brother, Something for the Weekend, Trisha, The Wright Stuff, T4 and The Kumars at No. 42 as well as various sports including Football, Rugby and Golf.

Testimonials

I am surprised that so few testimonials have been written about Toby. One does travel with mucho gusto through his body of work, most of which reaches out towards primal human interaction.
