In late 2008, a friend brought up a photo page that she was working on, with the idea of making her projects more visible. I checked it out and was amazed with the talents and ideas I saw from members of the Flickr community. That experience prompted me to spend more hands-on time with my camera, and to post and participate in the photo site.
I started shooting in the beginning of college and by the 2007 timeframe I developed what I might think of as a personal photo style. After moving to Texas, I switched from a point-and-shoot to a Canon Rebel and worked through indoor, outdoor, macro, landscape, and B&W projects. In early 2011 I went on a photowalk as a member of a class and was pushed to spend a day shooting only in manual mode. This seems to have continued until today, as I have never gone back to shooting in anything but manual mode. Recently I switched to a Canon 7D and am very pleased with the results.
The time that I spent positing and working on my own pictures is small in comparison to the time spent looking through the photos of other users. I see so many great views and thoughts from photographers here. That is definitely a motivator to try new things on my own.
