Hi

My name is Tim Barker and I live in the UK. My home is located in the westcountry on the north coast of Devon. I am a Lecturer in Computer Science at a local college. I have been married for 35 years and have a daughter of 25.

I love travel, especially in Europe although I have visited many parts of the world from Australia in the East through to the USA and the West Indies in the West and Norway in the North to South Georgia in the South. My other interests are Antiques, especially clocks and watches and classic cars. I also like many outdoor activities such as kayaking and walking.

So what of my interest in photography. As a youngster in my teens I had a film SLR and always found it somewhat frustrating. I just couldn't at that time afford the cost of developing mistakes! I got into digital photography in the late nineties and have had a succession of Canon P&S cameras; A5, A75, A560. So now some 30 years later I have just purchased my first DSLR. I have owned my Nikon D40 since November '08 and I have thoroughly enjoyed using it. The ability to take a picture just for the sake of it is very liberating.

A year on and I've developed in many ways! I would certainly now describe myself as a camera junkie as I've purchased a whole range of cameras and equipment in the last year A photographer? Well that's for others to judge. This last 12 months has certainly been absorbing, interesting, fascinating and challenging.

What of the next 12 months? Well I am looking to develop my portraiture and landscape photography. I am definitely looking for some more challenging assignments in the coming months.

Tim appears to have arrived on the Flickr scene at about the same time as I did. In the time I've known him he's shown a wonderful ability to recognise what would make a good image, and capture it well. He's developed and enhanced his style wonderfully, and can make any pretty much anything look interesting. He's not afraid to try new techniques and as a result has some wonderfully varied and interesting shots in his photo-stream. If you have the time, view his stream as a slide-show, grab something nice to drink, and enjoy the show. I'm happy to consider Tim a Flickr friend.
