This site is for anyone who needs help with titanium and a vehicle for me to help them. I will load technical data from time to time to help the many people who call me each week. Maybe this will help with the e-mail traffic if I make it available for everyone. Sort of a Frequently Asked Questions thing, because it really seems like that is the case much of the time. It’s amazing to me how much misinformation there is out there for titanium. Some of it is down right dangerous if used. I usually find that when I talk to those people who post or propagate the information they are not doing it intentionally. It’s just a basic lack of understanding of some of the specialized issues you must take into account if you are going to use titanium “Cost Effectively”. So, don’t take a chance ask me or someone you are sure has years of experience. We just want you to have the best possible experience!

So who am I, well I am currently the President and COO of Hi-Tech Welding and Forming, Inc., since 1998. At Hi-Tech I am intimately involved in the development of the technology such as 2nd Generation Super Plastic Formingsm, Electron Beam Development, Vacuum Heat Treatment, client relationships and general marketing. Engineering and fabrication of complex titanium components for the Company’s customers as well as our proprietary FEA Analysis activities for Design all fall under my responsibility. I left the International Titanium Association in 1998 as their Executive Director after 7 great years. One heck of a lot of traveling and countless visits to facilities all over the world, what a great opportunity! It was a real privilege to serve the industry and I tried to treat it like that. Prior to heading up the titanium industry, I was VP of Engineering & Quality Control at Explosive Fabricators where I served as Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Titanium Industry for three years and Conference Chair for both International and National Conferences. I joined Explosive Fabricators as a partner in the fall of 1988 after 6 years of employment at GKN Chem-tronics as their Director of Research and Development. Prior to Chem-tronics I was at GE’s Aircraft Engine Group, as a Materials and Manufacturing Engineer. And prior to that I was in the shop TIG welding, machining, programming, tool and die and even spinning the chips. So, I bring a 40+ year manufacturing pedigree to Hi-Tech, having worked in engineering and executive capacities, I have developed products for sale and had bottom line responsibility for medium size operations. I developed and started the highly successful Titanium 101 class now taught by Stan Seagle at the International Titanium Association, and the How To Weld Titanium Course now taught by Edison Welding Institute for the ITA, and have frequently taught advanced courses in titanium welding, marketing, design and metallurgy all over the world in my spare time. I am active with numerous titanium specification and standards committees across the globe and have co-authored the titanium chapter of the American Welding Society Handbook along with various technical presentations and papers in journals and books. I am a certified Manufacturing Engineer and hold a number of patents in several areas of titanium and electronic ceramics fabrication and other specialized products. (Not out of energy yet, titanium is too much fun!)

One thing you can count on, you won’t get a guess if I am not sure, I have nothing to prove or financially gain other than the personal satisfaction that we may have made another titanium champion instead of a disgusted and bruised consumer who blames the metal when it was just bad information at fault. If I do not have the answer then chances are I will know the exact person to go to for the correct (un-biased) answer.
