A professional debt collector by day and a self-taught amateur, De Rong's passion in street and documentary photography was sparked by using the Olympus EP-1 then.
Heavily influenced by the Magnum Group of photographers, namely Henri Cartier-Bresson, Nikos Economopoulos, David Alan Harvey, Jonas Bendiksen and Steve McCurry; De Rong thrives on being a silent observer, peeking away at fleeting moments. He counts structured compositions, motion and proximity as key ingredients when piling the streets.
Together with Koh Yee Chao and Chris Lee, De Rong co-founded ASIA (Asia Street in Action) with the aim of promoting Street and Documentary Photography in Singapore, and in ASIA. To him, Street Photography essential entails capturing an often (incomplete and unexplained) image, in a fraction of a second.
"As long as my image can capture people's attention and potentially transport them to another realm, i am satisfied."
