In 2006 visual artist, professor (at North Park University) and musician Tim Lowly stumbled upon Flickr and started posting concert posters and music related photos. And some NPU related pictures. And the occasional painting. In 2007 he began to dig deeper into more extensive work with photographs using Photoshop as a tool analogous to his many layered approach to painting. Several thousand images later this site has become a very extensive record of Tim's eclectic visual production.

This guy is the real thing: an artist who uses a camera to make art. His work should be collected.

Tim Lowly's are and photography has a distinctive character that I really respond to. His work is often understated but nonetheless has a strong narrative content that speaks volumes. His unconventional approach to photography is highly original and induces none of the boredom I experience when thumbing through so many Flickr sites! Tim has something to say, and his quiet and patient skills as an artist come across. There's always something to learn from such artists as him. I commend his work to anyone who is looking for something evocative or original.

Most of all, I appreciate in these paintings Timo´s painstaking attachment to the subject matter and composition, always conceptually fresh and emotive... how grounded and dream-like they are. I am also drawn to the feeling of the midwest they evoke and which, having been born there, I share.

A unique set of paintings, highly distinctive and original. Well drawn 'professional' paintings with unusual takes on viewer perspective and content. On occasions I am reminded of Escher or Bottero - the surrealistic aspects disturb or demand an explanation. This artist draws on a wide source of situations and images for his inspiration. Each picture seems to tell a story and the narrative content is often perplexing, intriguing, or slightly forboding. Each picture is beautifully made.
