I have lived in the western United States for most of my adult life – in California, Colorado (Telluride, a ski town), and currently in the Pacific Northwest. I love the mountains but I also love the ocean. Living in the Seattle area gives me the best of both worlds.
I have traveled all over the west, including Alaska, and British Columbia & Alberta in Canada. However, New Zealand has been an important and cherished part of my life as well. I have visited New Zealand five times, spending cumulatively one year of my life traveling and tramping throughout the entire country. My adventures in New Zealand - and the Kiwis I have met there - have inspired and shaped much of who I am. The only other countries I have visited are Spain, Germany, and the Czech Republic, all rich in culture, history, and architectural eye-candy. Of course, my camera is always with me wherever I travel.
Most of my photography is done on-the-move, while tramping or traveling, just trying to capture the essence of what I am seeing or experiencing - including some of the wonderful people I meet along the way. I used film cameras for my early trips to New Zealand. It took me until 2012 to finally go digital and I can't believe I waited so long! But it will probably be a lot longer before I ever adopt a Smart Phone camera as my camera of choice.
I wrote the following short verse to capture my spirit of travel. It is admittedly greeting-card-level poetry, but it does express my sentiments.
WANDERLUST
Climb up every mountain.
Wade through every shore.
Follow every river,
and adventure more.
Return to favorite places,
yet explore the new.
Aim for far horizons.
(Smell the roses too).
For joy found in discovery
and travel often tends
to build appreciate for
home, loved ones, and friends.
A big "Thank You" to all of you who have taken time to view my photos, "fave" my photos, and to follow my work. I love discovering and exploring your images as well.
