Born on Guam, lived in Canada, love California (and many other places), and I've lived most of my life here in central Ohio. Je parle français aussi!
I've been on Flickr since May 2007 when I accidentally discovered it one day while surfing... I really like Flickr because it's a place I can share my photos as well as see many other members' awesome photos from around the world. It's also a social network, as I've met other friendly members worldwide who share my interest in photography. The best thing about Flickr is you. Yes, you. If you're like everyone else I've met here, you encourage other members with your positive comments and general friendliness. I'm very glad you stopped by to view my photos and read what I have to say... Thanks!
I've had an interest in photography ever since I bought my first 35mm SLR in 1982. It was a Minolta XG-1 and it was a good soldier for 20 years until it wore out and retired (surrendered??). Since then, I've had three digital cameras. I'll be one of the first people to stand up and say “digital is better than 35mm film,” but I admit that I miss the days in the past when one camera would last 20+ years.
Digital photography... I was reluctant at first, but after I took the plunge and bought my first digital camera, I was hooked. I no longer had to buy film, load the camera, take only 36 shots, drive the film can to the shop, get the photos back and, OOPS, only 28 shots were good ones... Oh yes, I had to pay to develop the film and drive back to the shop and get the prints. Flickr in 1982? I don't think so... With digital, I can now take as many shots as my SD card can handle (500+). I can bring them back home, load them on the computer, crop, rotate, tone map, apply gradients, correct colors, wow! Then I can upload my favorite shots to Flickr for the world to see. Yes, digital is much better...
As maybe you've already noticed while viewing my portfolio, I love the great outdoors. Mountains, oceans, lakes, hiking, camping, skiing... Yeah, I'm there... I also like the opposite from time to time: big cities. The great cities of the world such as Los Angeles, New York, Prague, and my favorite: Toronto, the best city in the world. Of course, there are many more parts of the world to explore, and I'll likely be getting out there to explore some more soon. Where would I want to go next? Maybe Costa Rica, Croatia, Finland, Dominica... All of these places—and too many more to mention—would intrigue me.
I like shooting different types of shots... landscapes, cityscapes, macros... But my favorite is night photography. Night photography is a type of challenge that I really enjoy. As you may have seen in my portfolio, I love taking my tripod around the city and getting time exposures of the brilliant lights. I also like capturing moonscapes. With some luck, I'll be posting more moonscapes in the future.
Keep shooting those great shots, because I want to see them!
Bonne journée et bon chance!

Geoff's pictures are to me a window to see the way life is on a place afar. His work tells about peace, harmony, colors and angles of life which get us closer to happiness and I enjoy very much looking at them. Way to go, Geoff!

Geoff is the type of person I was hoping to meet when I joined the Flickr community. An avid hiker and nature lover like myself, we often travel the same roads and trails of the southern Ontario and Great Lakes areas and I can instantly and vividly relate to his many wonderful pictures. A well travelled guy, I can always count on Geoff to find something unique in the landscape to showcase and I always look forward to his new postings. Manitoulin Island, the Bruce Peninsula, the north shore of Lake Huron and points beyond; his photos evoke memories and moods of such sublime and beautiful places.
