I’m an amateur photographer.
I think I became this because I’m a perpetual observator. I love to watch what is happening and living around me and I think the camera became naturally an extension of my eyes.
I love to take time to let things surrounding me inspire myself. That’s why I would say that I don’t have a particular subject that attracts me. I can be really “contemplative” like for the landscapes and architecture ones when I try to extract a particular sense of what I see; but also be more focused on people and their actions, when I’m in a middle of a scene and want to capture the essence of it. I also love to let myself go beyond a naturalistic approach and try to create more than only capture, to express my feelings with this particular medium but the result can be sometimes completely out of a natural photography. One of my favorite art movement being Impressionism i try sometimes to go closer to this way of expression, capturing lights and the beauty of the world.
About a more chronological approach, I would say that I happened to like to take pictures while I was Erasmus for one year in Finland. I’ve been completely amazed by the landscape of this country and by the very particular light that is shinning there. It is a very gentle and friendly light that makes everything look nice, and soft. This year ended with an exhibition focused on this particular subject, the light and all related to it.
At that time I had a digital compact camera, a Canon and I think I used it until it collapsed =)
This first experience was a declic for me and I decided to become more productive and joined the photography club of my school. I shooted at that time Canon again but with a SLR one (AE1). And this was more than a love story. I really loved to reveal my photographs in the dark room, spending hours there to play with the different lights and baths. I had also the chances to exhibit some of my work.
For some reason I couldn’t continue to work on film so I changed for a digital Nikon, a D80 that is still my camera today. I now have the 18-200 f/3.5 that is following me everywhere but I also love to change it for my Tokina 12-24 f/4 or the Nikkor 50 f/1.4 when I need to work differently or with more depth of field or less light.
I try to expose here a selection of my work; sometimes I like it, sometimes less. If you want to critic it this is the place, feel free to tell me what you think and what could be improved.
I’m open to criticism when it is constructive.
That’s it, hope you’ll enjoy my photostream =)
