I am a self-taught artist and fine art photographer born and raised in the colorful and multi-cultural city of Miami Beach. As a painter and mixed media artist, I have always been drawn to the drama and purity of abstract imagery. Many of my works are an expression of this - a study in abstraction with a focus on the dynamic relationship between color and form. I also have a passion for surrealism and pop surrealism, and for enchanted and sometimes dark fairytale-like landscapes and figurative works that are rich with symbolism and literary references.
Although I haven't actively pursued the traditional route of showing my work in galleries, past art exhibitions include a February 2004 group show at Marziart Internationale Gallery in Hamburg and a number of private exhibitions in South Florida with my husband, British artist Jake Austin.
As a fine art photographer, I enjoy several genres of photography: abstract (geometric and/or surreal structures and forms, patterns, and textures), architecture, cityscapes, conceptual photography, infrared (both B&W and colorized), HDR, urban decay, macro photography, landscape photography, and nature photography (flowers, trees, and animals). Of all the genres, my favorite is landscape photography; as such, I have amassed a large collection of landscape shots, and I love working with various post-processing applications and experimental techniques to create more interesting surreal images and dreamscapes. Although I'm fairly new to photography, some of my photographs have been featured on MTV, HGTV and in the book, "Weird Colorado".
My goal as an artist and photographer is to share and celebrate the divine beauty and magic in this world, and to explore and examine the duality of dark and light.
Unfortunately, due to a severe decline in my health and my physical mobility, I haven't been able to paint large scale works or go out and take as many new photographs as I did in the past, so I am now focused on finding new and different ways to paint and create mixed media works and experimenting with post-processing techniques and treatments on the collection of photographs I captured in the years between 2002-2010. Building a comprehensive online portfolio that showcases the best of my work has been an ongoing process but most of my works can be found here and at:
