I work for the NYC Parks department, and am a horticulturist who uses this site primarily for cataloging my own studies of plants and public spaces as well as my pictures of friends, interesting or weird things I find, my hometown of Queens, my travels, and other fascinations.

Flickr is my personal album and my workbook; I am not aiming for a photostream of just "good" pictures. I do, however, have a good and best tag with which I try to track only my better photos.

Using my photos: I mark all of my photos as "all rights reserved," but that is mostly to avoid people using them without my knowledge. Mostly, I just like to know where they are, and if Creative Commons had a "free to use but let me know" option I'd assign that to most of them. To date, all who have asked to use my photos have gotten to free of charge as long as they attribute them to me and are not for profit use. I have also allowed some for-profit uses, but for these uses I generally ask a very nominal fee, recognizing that some of what I've photographed took time and expertise to find and capture. If you are, say, writing an article about plants and need some questions answered, I am usually happy to help.

One important exception is photos that have people in them. You cannot use these unless I get the consent of those pictured—which I am happy to try to do, if you ask.

Feel free to ask me plant questions! Answering others' queries is a favorite pasttime.
