The Tibetan National Flag was adopted in 1916 by the 13th Dalai Lama. It was the flag of an independent Tibet, recognized around the world until the 1960s. This account will post high quality images of the flag to remind the world of Tibet's historical status as an independent country. Inspired by Jamyang Norbu and other Tibetan writers and historians, research for this page was conducted by Nick Gulotta. Please use the photos posted here for research, exhibitions, school papers, news articles, blog posts, and books.

It would seem that the omens for an end to Communist China's oppression and colonization of Tibet aren't good these days, but my partner is one of many Overseas Chinese who do support your aspirations. We would like to encourage you by quoting a French saying which has been attributed to a number of most eminent people: Point n'est besoin d'espérer pour entreprendre, ni de réussir pour persévérer. It translates to English as: There is no need to hope in order to undertake, nor to succeed in order to persevere. I particularly like the idea that it has been said by William of Orange, whom we, the Dutch people, call 'pater patriae' because he took the lead in delivering us from the Spanish oppression in the sixteenth century. May Tibet reacquire independence soon.
