More than 125 years after opening its doors in 1882, the Thomas Crane Public Library in Quincy, Massachusetts, continues to garner praise for its service and architecture. The original Crane Memorial Library building was designed by noted American architect Henry Hobson Richardson; the latest addition and renovation project, completed in 2001, restored the beauty of the original building and created a modern and fully accessible library facility for an increasingly diverse population of over 90,000 residents.

The library offers services and resources for all ages, a literacy program for adults learning to read, and growing collections of Chinese language, English language learning and citizenship materials for the City’s newest residents. Each month, hundreds of people attend concerts, movies, book discussions, lectures, storytimes and more, many of which are funded by our large and active volunteer Friends of the Library group. The library also provides interlibrary loan services to residents and libraries throughout southeastern Massachusetts.

The Thomas Crane Public Library strives to provide materials, programs, and services that:

•Assist people to grow and learn throughout their lives

•Enable people to understand their own heritage and the heritage of others

•Provide an environment for people to gather, interact, and participate in public programs

•Address the need for adults to learn to read and develop essential life skills.
