Digital photography is very new to me. I bought my first digital camera roughly 5 years ago..............but didn't actually really begin to use it until the end of June of this year (2008). It was a simple 'point and shoot" camera- a Canon PowerShot S400. Very basic and with great limitations, but non the less a good beginners digital camera. I used that little guy almost daily since picking it up in June.......... up until August 19, when I guess it's age and sudden heavy daily use caught up to it. It took it's last shot.

August 20th I purchased a new Nikon D60 SLR and have been happily shooting with it since. Right now I only own the 18-55 mm AF-S DX VR lens, so my options are still a little limited on what I can actually shoot, at least the subjects that interest me. (Soon though I am hoping to purchase a new lens that will better meet my needs).

About my images: For the most part, what you see is what I saw. I consider these images merely 'snap shots'. Almost all simply being in a 'point and shoot' format. I don't necessarily find these creative or artistic nor are they supposed to be. I also am not into editing my images, though there are some that are. Roughly 40% are cropped, about 20% of those have very lite editing done to them. The rest are what they are........straight from the camera........just little reminders of what I've seen on my many outdoor excursions.

The subject matter is also very new to me. With the help of a few friends, I have just recently been 'reintroduced' to nature and the natural world......something that I have not taken the time to enjoy probably since childhood, where it had once been a very big part of my life. Coastal habitats and insects/spiders in general are two of my most favorite (new) subjects. As a result, they make up a majority of the images here on my Flickr account.

*Just a quick little tidbit I wanted to add: Everything I photograph (ed) was alive (except for 2-3 that I have noted). Anything picked up (by me) is/was either returned to where it was found or in the cases of finding things during low tide, was taken safely out to deeper waters.*

Well that being said.......I will finally leave you with my pics.

Hope you enjoy-Rik
