I guess i could describe myself as ... tragically heroic, obsessively funny, cautiously adventurous, a popular wallflower, bleeding heart, loveable smart-ass, eccentric boyscout, gifted hack, my little nieces idol, cursed with creativity, uncomfortably famous, and famously invisible. :)

However, i usually just describe myself as an artist. My medium of choice is colored pencil, but my drawings of wildlife look much more like highly detailed paintings than what most people think of as colored pencil. Most of my drawings portray animals as seen through the eyes of our ancient ancestors. But whether seen in mythology as heroes or villains, gods or pawns, they were always respected for their role. By showing animals alongside ancient depictions of themselves i hope to imply an age old connection between humans and animals.

As much as i love my work, it is still work. It's fun in the beginning (coming up with the concept), and it's very satisfying in the end (to see what was in my head come to life), but everything in between is just work. :( As proud as i am of my originals, i actually live for the research involved - spending time in the wild, photographing animals at zoos, and traveling to archaeological parks. People always ask to see the photos i take on my trips, so i decided to share those photos that I'll probably never use as reference material. I honestly don't want to show my best photos because some people are less impressed with my drawing skills when they see my photography skills - go figure. Anyway, most of the photos you see here were taken with the purpose of study and were not taken with the intent of being considered pieces of art. Still, they are just nice to look at. Hope you enjoy sharing this side of what i do. :)
