I bought my first serious 35 mm camera (Canon A1) in the early '80s. I took a job at a camera shop just to get to the inside scoop on the equipment, the discounts, the processing, and the people. Since my primary career is scientific, the hobby has been important my whole life. I switched entirely to digital about 2001, and currently shoot a Nikon D800.

Most of my work is landscape and nature. You can see some of the images here, and some at www.thesentimentalgeek.com. I have also entered into the foray of microstock. You can find me at www.istockphoto.com.

A couple of years back, I began the process to learn how to capture people. This has been an education in and of itself. New issues - how to approach people to ask them to model - asking friends or professionals - studio or outside, lighting, reflectors, backdrops, model releases, property releases... this has been a never ending barage of new challenges.

I am interested in the feedback and reactions available in this environment to help me both hone my skills, and learn from others. Our eyes are an incredible gift - taking up some 60% of the processing in our brains at any given time. Yet I wonder - what is it that makes us seek static images, frozen in time and space...?
