Even though I have never really succeeded at being a "professional" photographer, I still return to it time and time again, continuing to learn as I go. Lately I have begun shooting film again, even enjoying my $35 Holga 120N. I have determined that what I love about the art of photography isn't in the level of sophistication of the product; rather, it is in the endeavor, the discipline, the approach to the medium and the subject. I continue to seek perfection of composition, looking for the best light and just the right moment. Also, it helps if you carry a camera with you wherever you go. But deliberate pursuit in art calls for some attention to technique.
