I've been waiting on this for forever, but here I go.. Sasha's photography blows my mind apart. It's so delightful. You can see how passionate she is about photography just by strolling through her flickr stream. Her photos are ripe with both emotional and technical perfection. Her mind is just over-flowing with ideas that I wish I could think of. She can take child portraits, engagement portraits, self portraits, and inanimate object photos as good as each other. Her self-portraits are spectacular- so varied and so brilliant, plus it doesn't take away from it all that she's beautiful. Her photos' titles are poems in themselves- magical and oh so perfect for the photos they are attached to. Her photos open your eyes to the beauty of the world around you. She's charming and kind and I'm happy to be contacts with her.

I met Sash while driving one exceptionally hot May day. My allergies had just started to kick in and a whopper of a sneeze was welling up in my sinuses. This particularly cruel sneeze decided to unleash its fiery rage at the exact moment that the road made a slight turn to the left. Well everyone knows that if you sneeze with your eyes open, they’ll pop out of your head. So naturally, I closed them. Milliseconds later, I reopened my eyes with barely enough time to reach my hand (which had come, instinctually, up to my face) back to the wheel and swerve just enough back onto the road to avoid hitting a girl who was walking on the shoulder. Shaken, but not enough to completely lose my senses, I pulled over to see if she was all right. Stepping out of the car, my eyes fell upon the girl and I felt my jaw slacken against my will. She had long flowing black hair, doe eyes, and a yellow dress so bright it hurt my eyes to look at it. The biggest surprise, however, came from the fact that she had not even flinched. She was still standing exactly as she had been before I came dangerously close to knocking her flying into the stratosphere. It was at that very moment that I also noticed she was holding one thumb out to the road. As I stared at her, still dumbfounded, she approached me and spoke before I could even think of what I wanted to say first. “Where are you going?” she asked. I just stared, my mind working as fast as cold cement. She stared back patiently as if she had all the time in the world. Cars flew past and the drivers’ necks turned to rubber as they surveyed the scene of our unlikely encounter. The cars didn’t exist, or that might as well have been the case. Barely collecting my wits, I replied, “I don’t know.” “I need to get to the Grand Canyon.” “That’s pretty far.” “It is.” “OK, let’s go.” She got in the car and I followed. “What’s your name,” I asked. “Sasha.” We drove a bit and talked a bit more. Before I knew it, the green of the grass and trees had been replaced by the yellows, oranges, and browns of the desert. “You can drop me anywhere,” Sasha said suddenly. I cleared my throat and began to say something that I’d been thinking about for a while. “If you don’t mind,” I said, “I’d like to stay for a bit.” “I was hoping you’d say that,” she answered. I drove until we reached the edge of the canyon. My car, which had seen better days, putted to a stop and Sasha immediately jumped out. She didn’t seem to like being confined in small spaces. I got out too and flopped down on the ground near the edge, but far enough to be safe. Sitting outside made me realize just how exhausted all that driving made me. Closing my eyes, I felt Sasha sit down next to me. We sat for some time, enjoying each other’s presence and the peace brought on by the sheer vastness of our surroundings. After what could have been a few minutes or an eternity, I opened my eyes. Sasha was no longer next to me; instead she was standing at the edge of the canyon, arms outstretched. Her body formed the shape of a lowercase t that stood out in stark contrast to the striking blue sky that, from my low perspective, seemed to be the only other thing in the world. I stood. “You should be more careful,” I said. “Why’s that?” she said. “Well the rocks could come loose and you’d fall.” “How do you know I’d fall?” “Gravity.” “So you believe that it’s a definite, indisputable fact that if the rocks broke right now I’d fall?” “Most definitely.” “Well then if you were in that situation, you most likely would fall.” I was slightly perturbed. “You mean to say that merely believing something is so, makes it so?” “No,” she answered, “I mean that there is no real way of knowing that a thing is definite.” As she said this, she took two steps backward off the edge of the canyon. All my internal organs at once did little belly flops inside me. Every muscle in my body tensed. Time froze… or so I thought, as Sasha was floating midair above the endless expanse below. “I am a firm believer in perceived limitations,” she said. Only then did I realize that time was not frozen at all, but I had been immobilized only out of incomprehensible disbelief. “How…” was all I could muster. I couldn’t think hard enough to form a sentence. Sasha reached out her hand for me to take. Tossing aside my assumptions and paralyzing my preconceptions, I took her hand, closed my eyes, and stepped over the edge.

When I finally can capture her essence in a photograph, which I am wokring very hard on, I can dedicate it to her :) Yet, its very difficult to capture such beauty on the inside and out without photographing her herself. You are wonderful, I love you :)
