The mid-century shed is a collection of all things that interests us in simply terms, although what exists to view at the moment is by no means all that we love, or moves us it is a starting point. On one level it is about the search for making an ideal home environment in a world that is not ideal, on another it is about finding out who we are after a period of time in which we lost our identity. For we belong to an age that grew in the 1980s and became jaded in the 1990s, and found ourselves again in the last few years. It is strange to think that we loved the dress, the music, the 2D design and the cars. But not the objects, maybe because we were not aware of them or they were something that our parents dismissed as being dated.

So what do you get, well you get to see our love of design, although that is not to say that we live in a designer house that ticks all the right style boxes, but more of a retro home that hold objects that are timeless, and of a quality that is not possible to find easily now, or affordable for most people.

But this takes us away from the point somewhat as the 20th Century Shed is about joy of mid-century design with it clean lines and fitting use of materials which was what a post second war world that was looking forward to. Of course there is a renewed following it many of the items shown, to the point that certain items are now back in production and fill the pages of magazines like Country Living and Elle Decoration etc.

Along with our love or I should say my love of Ercol, we also have a growing collection of Twintone Poole Pottery as well as using Midwinter tableware and growing collection of Hornsea items. Each of these ranges have quality that reflect the age they were produced in from the 40's and 50's pastels of Poole to the 1960s stripes of Midwinter and the patterns of Hornsea.

......

Well since I wrote the above, life has moved on and we have moved twice, which reflects much that has happened in our personal life, and outside of what this site is about, but under pins what is recorded or not recorded at time.

When we start we were in the process of re-styling our Colchester house into something that looked well balanced, alas life get in the way, and due to personal factor we moved into Suffolk, to an interning open plan house built in 1970. This house was quickly turned round, although it was realised that it was not right for us. So now we are in the countryside just outside Woodbridge and once again trying to put our stamp on another house.

This house will crop up from time to time, although it needs to be changed and made ours as we need to make it our home.

In the mean time keep watching.

As for the furniture it keeps changing with one item coming in for another to go, I guess it keeps life interesting. But you might get to see some art as well if time allows.

One day there will be a blog....
