Irish social documentary photographer, specialising in Irish and Americana urban landscapes.

Influences : Punk D.I.Y. attitude, Robert Frank, Fergus Bourke, Tony O'Shea, Vincent Van Gough, the portraits of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Picasso, Jack Kerouac, Sergio Leone, Martin Scorsese, Julien Temple, The Face magazine, Patti Smith, The Clash, The Ramones ...

History : Inspired by the colour of Punk, in the grey Dublin of the early 80s fell in love with film photography.

After a long hiatus, I purchased a Nikon d50 and mounted a 50 mm lens, and the obsession re-commenced.

Since 2006 I have been charting the daily lives of Dubliners of all types, in their home environment, from Inner city Dublin, out to Ballymun and Ballyfermot. Capturing unique Dub's doing what they do, in their natural state, whether happy, sad, laughing, having fun, mischievous or just getting by .

Making the ordinary look special, and exhibiting something thats real, alive, personal and unique -- thats the aim ...

I have recently branched out of Dublin, from Galway across the Atlantic to NYC, hitchhiking my way across to San Fran for my American Anonymous series.

In 2019 I was honoured to exhibit my inner city Dublin work - Stars and Souls of the Liffey - at the home of the Irish nation:

the GPO in Dublin city centre.

The memento book of that exhibition is available below -

Good photography should communicate to the soul, causing some form of personal re-action.

Testimonials

Such good everyday 'street' photography. Really captures the cultures and times of Ireland. Most pictures tell a story , depict lifestyles. Takes me back to my own youth albeit in Northern England (Wigan). An absolute pleasure to look at these photos.

Capturing the moment many dont even see is what Barry does best ! Really enjoy going through the pictures time and time again, so many stories, tales of woe, hardship, joy and sadness all preserved for our eyes to gaze upon.
