The Ancient Brettons have been together in their present form since the summer of 1983. However, the founder members have been entertaining a variety of audiences, in various guises, as far back as the early 1970’s where the nucleus of the group was gradually formulated in a cosy hostelry at a small hamlet on the edge of Derbyshire’s beautiful Peak District. The hamlet was called ‘Bretton’, hence the latter portion of their name; the former being a ‘suitable’ pun!

The musical backgrounds of The Ancient Brettons are as varied as the kinds of music that they play and, although three of the members obtained a ‘classical Yorkshire’ training in a number of local brass bands, their overall interests range from their obvious roots in traditional folk music through to contemporary pop, rock, jazz, classical and light opera. In theory something to please everyone.
