I'm a founder and resident-member (since 1971) of Project Artaud, a 90-member artist-owned and operated live/work arts collective in San Francisco. And I DO live and work in what was once an actual Vault space-- big steel door and all-- in our 1925 converted factory building.

 

Recently, I've been constructing small framed shadow boxes (Bone Boxes), using REAL mouse and rodent bones re-assembled into human-like skeletons, then attaching them to altered-art digital print backgrounds of classic paintings. I also occasionally add scaled miniature props, such as musical instruments or tools, etc. You'll find Bone Boxes by clicking on an ALBUM named "Bone Works and Egg Art". Bone Boxes are also found throughout my Flickr Photostream.

 

In addition to my solo artworks and constructions, I've collaborated on some paintings with Anna Conti, a mentor and prolific fine-arts painter, blogger, and good friend. (Search for her flickr.com site!) In our collaborations, Anna designs and paints a central image or scene in acrylics, and I create the 'framework' on the surface with beans, beads, seeds, balsa strips, whatever little objects come to hand, which I paint and arrange in patterns surrounding the central work.

 

I've worked in mixed-media and various forms of "folk art" for most of my life. I also had a ceramics studio for 15 years, working in porcelain and stoneware. I enjoy collage, assemblage, and batik as an occasional break from bones...
