After all these years the world still remains in my eyes a mysterious and fascinating place. I do not seek to really explain it, more than show it, frame what makes it beautiful and troubling, like certain femmes fatales. Although both my parents were English speakers I grew up in France--where I developed the bug to travel and snap pictures. A couple of photography classes taught by John McKee at Bowdoin College were to have the greatest influence on my sense of composition and subject matter. My other activities (which I consider more than hobbies) are painting, writing (May I recommend you read my novels: THE BIG JIGGETY, POP THE PLUG and ALL OF THE NIGHT?) , and playing (sometimes composing) music on the guitar, piano, and drums.

I have followed your work now for quite some time and each time I find myself discovering new ways of seeing and feeling. I appreciate your loyal visits and your insightful comments also! thank you. You are a genuine artist with talents that shine here on earth and most definitely into the cosmos.. my dog Cezanne blue howls to all your music....and so please know that even our dogs respond...one way or another. (smile). I am also very grateful that we got to hang out in Detroit and take you out for dinner...a special treat for us. Thanks Micha K for sharing with us your superb works of art! xx Diane Kramer aka She Wolf

I have very much enjoyed looking at Michael Kent's paintings, in them I get a strong sense of place and a strong connection with memory and life itself. It is a fascinating photostream and stands out from many on Flickr; in that it is both personal but with a clear sense of direction and not the least bit superficial. I guess that this body of work comes with life's experiences. I respond to his rich colours (also the faded photos) better than these pin-sharp digital ones, again they summon up a world as it passes, the small details are great and seem true to me. Art is often about making sense of life both one's inner world and one's response to the universe as we experience it. It seems to me Michael has and is doing an admirable job here on both counts.

I haven't contacted you frequently enough, and our proclivities in visual art and literature are too closely related to justify that neglect. I have just surveyed your paintings on Flickr ( here) and some of your photos. I have not read your novel, but I like the snippets and swatches you affix to work by others ( including me) and I can see the skill of a writer there. Your paintings strike me ( because I search for such things-- the connection is semi-automatic) sometimes as a portmanteau of Stanley Spencer, Beckmann and Alice Neel. Those are three of my favorite artists, of course, and any comparison implies praise, not accusations of derived imagery or technique. I must thank you for your consistent attention to my work. Going down the "home stretch" as I am, the accumulated influences I carry, and the continual search for new forms in which to set them, the determination not merely to "manufacture" and be what Eliot said: "Old men ought to be/ explorers . . ." To drift in the vapors of his MARINA-- to rustle against the leaves at BURNT NORTON . . . That is my daily task now. I see , if this doesn't sound too bold, a similar impetus in the constant variety of your images. Your work is solid , yet shows a good deal of spontaneity. Your vision is sound, confident, and translated into images that are technically proficient and lively in their emotional content. Each time I visit your site I learn something new. Time to visit more often. Norman

And now you're bringing in existentialism, one of my most favorite of topics.... As a therapist, I mainly use the existential approach developed by Fromm, Yalom, etc. but I notice it gets missed on some... Not you, I expect!

Endurable Dust (deleted)

Michael is a sensitive photographer, a good 'artist'. He always an interesting point of view. His photos, not only photos, are always stories of life. He has a good eye on the world.

The Big Jiggety is an 'artist's artist' as well as an artist that can please the casual eye looking for beauty. There is honesty in these varied works and a force of personality that exudes the confidence of someone who has nothing to prove but plenty to share.

I spent a lovely hour or so regarding your photostream, and have decided you are in your own class altogether. I spent a lovely hour or so regarding your photostream, and have decided you are in your own class altogether. You are not seduced by mere prettiness at all (I'm a slut for pretty, myself), but you manage to take the most random encounter, the fleeting revelation, and capture it, and elevate happenstance into iconic status. I'm not on to how you do it, either. What would look absolutely random and careless in another's care somehow becomes a singular artform in yours. Foshizzle
