I take snapshots. Despite the photographic snobbery that goes on here at flickr I'm brave enough to say that upfront. I look around the other photographs here and sure they have plenty of "interestingness" and they are very clever technically. However there are other photographs that have their own snapshot charm. If I can produce a snapshot that someone just wants to look at I'm happy enough.

My snapshots are mainly things that just catch my eye or even just the boring surroundings from my everyday life here in Melbourne, Australia.

I'm working on improving the composition of my snapshots because I've realised that the trick is to use the camera to capture the aspect of the subject that caught my eye. I've also come to understand that for me to do this very well I'm going to need a very fancy, expensive camera with lots of complicated settings and I'm also going to have to learn how to use those settings. That won't be happening, so I will make the best of what I have.

I do like to learn from my mistakes or oversights. I find it difficult to imagine what a photo on the small screen of the camera is going to look like on the large screen of the computer or indeed flickr. So sometimes I am disappinted with my results even after extensive Photoshopping. Where possible, I sometimes go back to a subject and photograph it again.

Having said all that I'm happy for people to comment on my snapshots with suggestions of how I could make them better - I can handle criticism. However please understand that I have basic cameras with basic lenses, I use basic editing software and I have modest ambitions.

Aside from playing on flickr, I am learning (very slowly) to speak German. I would like to hear from any German native speakers.
