The Thames Discovery Programme was funded by a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund from 2008-2011 and is now hosted by Museum of London Archaeology. TDP is a community and public archaeology project, that aims to connect Londoners with the archaeology and history of the Thames.

The project has two intertwined strands: community archaeologists are undertaking a survey of the intertidal foreshore revealed during low tide windows on the Thames - with digital photography comprising a large and open access part of our project's online archive. It is these photos that are presented within this Flickr account. The Thames Discovery Programme's survey updates and extends the records of the Thames Archaeological Survey (1995-1999); some of this project's archive images have also been digitised and uploaded to this collection.

Public participation in the recording and monitoring of these threatened sites is welcomed. Volunteers have been trained to be members of the Foreshore Recording & Observation Group, which visit the key sites on a regular basis, providing a long-term sustainable future for the monitoring and enjoyment of the river’s historic maritime heritage.

As a public archaeology project we also encourage wider participation and engagement with the archaeology of the Thames through a programme of events, information days, exhibitions and via social media. For those of you that use Facebook, we have our own Thames Discovery Programme group and page – please join us, and you can also follow us on Twitter and Instagram @ThamesDiscovery.
