Mat es un maestro de la fotografía cuadrada. Lo único que veo que se repite en su trabajo es la proporción de las imágenes, todas cuadradas. Pero viendo sus trabajos te olvidas de proporciones y disfrutas con cada una de ellas. Las hace sencillas, aparentemente sencillas, algunas casi vacías, con pocos elementos... pero nada en sus trabajos está dejado al azar. Todo está en su sitio. Todas las líneas y zonas están perfectamente estudiadas y equilibradas. Mat es un maestro del color y la luz en la fotografía. Juega con la luz y los colores de una manera magistral. No encontrarás ni una foto en la que poner pegas a la luz o al color. Y cuando expone trabajos con poca gama de colores, el uso de la gama tonal es genial. Mat es un maestro en el uso de las texturas. Una, dos, hasta tres texturas, que conjugan bien con el objeto de cada foto. Ninguna textura sobra, ni oculta nada que él no quiera ocultar. Muchas veces sus texturas coquetean con la textura propia de los objetos que retrata. Aún mejor. Mat es un maestro del enfoque y desenfoque. Sobre todo en fotografía de objetos tipo bodegón, juega con los enfoques de una manera magistral. Además consigue, o al menos así lo interpreto yo, que el plano de las texturas quede por detrás de la zona enfocada y por delante de la desenfocada, dando una profundidad a la foto aún mayor y, sobre todo, dando la sensación de que la textura utilizada en realidad existe, en forma de cristal viejo... Mat es un maestro, y ejerce aquí en Flickr, enseñándonos de vez en cuando sus técnicas, sin pudor, mostrando un pantallazo de su procedimiento. Chapó. Cuando sea viejo y me quede cegato una de las cosas que más echaré de menos será disfrutar de los trabajos de Mat.
