The town of Arendal, located in southern Norway, is the administrative centre of the municipality and the Aust-Agder county. When we founded TEDxArendal our two main aims were:

1) to create an arena in our region for the TED initiative, spreading the ripple effects of its positivity and energy

2) to give our regional talent and ideas a stage to present to the world their thoughts and their ideas

In addition, the TED initiative falls nicely in line with the focus on education promoted by our region. The main reason TEDx Arendal came to be, is the Sørlandet kunnskapshavn ("harbour of knowledge", a wordplay on the geographical location of a cluster of knowledge businesses and organisations) - an initiative taken by the municipality, to create a facility that lets people mingle, develop ideas, and synergise. The TEDxArendal initiative has naturally sprung from that environment. As such, the TEDxArendal also calls "Kunnskapshavna" our home - this is where planning meetings are hosted, and the main bulk of the work is done.
