I've had a Flickr account for many years. Originally, I used Flickr to share my photos with friends and family. However, I have started using it more and more to post images of my handmade items and to get involved in the craft community. Therefore, I thought I'd update my profile to include a few words about my sewing.

SEWING CRAFTS:

I taught myself how to sew almost two years ago. I lost my teaching job and on a whim made a 'What To Do While Unemployed' list. At the top was sewing. One of the classes I taught was drama and I purchased a sewing machine so that I could finish last minute set/costume items from home (any reason not to be at school until 5!). The first thing I made was a wallet. It was a bit out of my league as a newbie. But I kept at it and now I am making quilts, totes etc. and hope to have my Etsy shop up and running by June. Oh, and I don't miss teaching ;)

PHOTOGRAPHY:

I live in Newport News, Virginia and have come to appreciate the Tidewater area. I am extremely lucky to have so many parks and wildlife refuges so close – not to mention the short drive to the Blue Ridge Mountains! I am always amazed at the variety of habitats surrounding us, and because of this, I have become very conscious of the diverse population of wildlife. Therefore, the majority of my photographs focus on nature and animals. I am very much an amateur photographer and most of my pictures are taken with a Canon Digital Rebel XT and a Canon 75-300mm lens. I never use a tripod, because I don’t have one yet, and a lot of my photos were taken while hiking, kayaking or looking out my bedroom window.
