Tim Copeland, a native California photographer, offers a very different take on color, shapes, and subject matter. Most of us see shapes, colors and shades of shadow and light in our own way, through our own “lens” of life, yet rarely do we experience them in a way that Tim’s photographs reveal to us; full of deep saturation, bright colors, textures and shapes which we don’t often take the time to notice or appreciate as Tim has.
Tim’s background in art reaches from painting, to drawing, to photography. It was when Tim was a teenager that his fascination with photography began. Tim’s background in painting and art developed over time, yet it’s been photography that has captured his heart. Tim takes photos in ways that reflect a deeper appreciation as well as a kind of complexity in many every day subjects.
Often times, Tim draws on the experience he had growing up in a small ethnically diverse region of Central California, with its rich history, including Hispanic, Armenian and Asian influences. Later, Tim’s travels overseas to Japan and Korea influenced his approach to his craft. There he experienced a colorful culture and people, and this inspired his interest in capturing a variety of themes, colors, and subjects. The images that Tim is best known for capture his signature style that often possesses curious perspective, and a deep, saturated look; and that separates Tim’s style from others, making him unique and quite marketable.
In addition to Tim’s overseas travels, his vast travels through-out the United States influence how he sees and shares his visions; contrasting the light, shapes, and colors in natural settings, against the cold steel, marble, and glass of man made structures. Not only does Tim bring out the deep colors, but also bright, vivid, often saturated colors and unusual shapes from nature as well as man made structures. Much more than that in fact, Tim's work shows his intuitiveness through the way he sees life and the every day objects we sometimes take for granted. While Tim’s body of work also includes black and white abstract and fine art images; it’s very often the variety of subjects and creative style that takes many by surprise.
Tim’s work reveals to us simple, yet complex subjects, photographed in a way that gives the viewer a deeper appreciation for the light, shadow, angles, and shapes in our diverse world where nature blends with man. Tim's ultimate goal is to give a fresh new perspective for the viewer. His photos draw the viewer in and cause them to feel like they can reach out and touch the subject. Tim's innate ability to see the obvious in a new and exciting way has his images in demand more and more. Tim's work is passionate and timeless.
