I first got serious about photography while stationed at Midway Island in the early 70's. A Nikkormatt ftn was my camera of choice back then and Midway was and still is a wildlife refuge. The cost of film, and college, and other hobbies put photography on hold soon thereafter until 6 or 7 years ago when I picked up a Nikon coolpix 4500 which had incredible macro capabilities for a p+s, but wasn't very good for larger and more distant wildlife. Three years ago I took the leap into dslr's with a Nikon D40x, and then about 2 years ago I purchased a D90. My go-to camera now is a D7100 and my favorite lens is a Nikkor 500 f/4. Update: I and now shooting with the D810 and the D500. New favorite lens is the 300 2.8

I have fished saltwater most of my life, having been born here in Florida, so my knowledge of how fish respond to the tides makes shooting seabirds that much more interesting to me. Many of my photos are named for the fish seen within the bird's grasp!

You can usually find me at Fort Desoto or in area cemeteries and parks entertaining a lifelong passion - observing nature and sharing it with friends.
