I am now fully retired from my forensic science career, except when the odd call comes, but that is rare now.

In Photography, I have recently been focusing on improving my post-processing skills. What I learned quickly is that it is easier to learn how to use Photoshop than it is to learn when to stop using Photoshop. In addition, I use an add-on developed by Tony Kuyper (TK9) that produces incredible luminosity, color, and saturation masks. This has become an indispensable part of my workflow. I also use Topaz Photo AI, mainly for denoising. Having mentioned AI, I do use it to modestly expand my borders when vertical and horizontal adjustments make the borders too tight. For focusing, I use a procedure that I learned years ago from Calvin Hollywood. He calls it Freaky Amazing Details (FAD) and it works wonders.

With my recent activity restrictions, I have focused more on rehabilitating some of my 40,000+ old photos. It has been a very interesting journey. As you may have noticed, I have been scanning my old B&W negatives from 1967 thru 1974. I am doing this mainly to review what I was doing then and see its relevance now. It may also be of interest to today's photographers.

2009 was an especially sad year for me artistically. Two of my most influential artists passed away... Andrew Wyeth and Irving Penn. Wyeth was a master of provocative composition and Penn an innovative genius in the art of studio photography.
