When I was young, children were encouraged to have "pen pals" in foreign countries. Before the days of the internet and instant communication, I would exchange letters with friends in distant places. It was always intriguing to receive an envelope postmarked from another country with the stamps which looked so exotic. Inside would be stories about the daily life of my pen pals. talar_man reminds me of that experience. Through her photographs I get a distinct feeling about her world and her life. With very few words and emotional imagery she conveys a world which is so different from mine, but so closely linked all the same. Some of us use photography to show a sense of place. talar_man gives us a glimpse of her soul. I consider that a gift.
