Steve Wedgwood grew up in New York (City and suburbs) and New England (Maine). He studied History & Lit (English, French & Germany) at Harvard, spent a year in Tübingen, Gemany, grad school at Ohio State, and taught German for ten years at Indiana University before moving to California in 1971. He is married, has four children—one unfortunately deceased of cancer,—four grandkids and usually a couple of dogs, and lives in Oakland. After retirement from US Postal Service in 2003 he began riding a bicycle and has ridden on the AIDS Ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles six times, and is going into his fifth year as a "Roadie," raising funds for HIV/AIDS services. He is also a classical singer (bass/baritone), specializing in Lieder, and was a church soloist for twenty-five years. He is a also a cancer survivor (colon, 2008/9, a lymphoma, 2024). Steve started snapping landscapes on trips to Alaska, Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, and across Canada to Maine, and was hooked on digital fotografy. He has been honing his skills over the past decade with many portraits of other cyclists on training rides. More recently he has been concentrating on flower images and landscape shots in the local Regional Parks. He mostly uses a Pentax K3, Mark ii, but is impressed with the camera in his iPhone 15.
