I first began using flickr in January of 2007 and in fact it was just two years prior that I first began using the Internet. A friend gave me an old Apple computer and since my wife and I were living in a cabin back in the woods near Santa Cruz our only option was dialup. Back then I was taking lots of photos with my new digital camera and using flickr to upload and save them all. Two years later (2009) I joined the facebook community and I began using it for photos more and more. As a result flickr and I became strangers for over a decade -- until a few weeks ago when I realized that my flickr account was still active and I remembered how much fun it was to use. I began uploading all my thousands of photos onto flickr and I realized that I am a photo hoarder. I have doubles and triples of so many photos and when I take pictures with my cell phone (and I still sometimes use my digital camera) I fantasize that I'm some professional photographer, taking ten snapshots of the same subject. My next project is organizing what I have accumulated throughout the years (and I scanned hundreds of old photos as well, of course). I've got to establish some kind of order in this chaos and method to my photo madness. After all -- I'm pushing 70 and with 12 grandchildren and one great grandson I've got to begin thinking about leaving them a photo legacy (and I dread the thought of someday in the future their sitting around a computer and looking through my photo collection, commenting "wow --- the old man was definitely obsessive compulsive when it came to taking and saving photos."
