South West Area Neighbors (SWAN) serves Elgin residents living in the area bordered by the Fox River on the east, Walnut Street on the north, Route 20 on the south, and Commonwealth Street on the west.

SWAN’s goal is to promote community pride and civic involvement while providing a forum for neighbors to discuss and address the ongoing development of our neighborhood.

The SWAN neighborhood is home to several family-friendly amenities, including parks, schools, transit and bike paths – all walking distance to downtown Elgin’s many attractions. SWAN residents can easily access the award-winning Gail Borden Library, The Centre of Elgin, the Elgin Symphony Orchestra at the Hemmens Theatre. Plus, the SWAN neighborhood is a quick walk to Elgin’s National Street Metra station, making the trip into Chicago easy.

SWAN meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 330 Griswold Street.
