A bit about me....

Born in 1977 in Bhaarat (erroneously called India!), growing up here, a student of loudspeaker design, of life, and of Recovery from 'i'. :)

Started photography seriously in 1999, with the primary inclination towards recording images which appear interesting regardless of the subject (except human portraiture). ▪ Have never had any formal training. ▪ Over the years, spent time experimenting with the camera and various other factors, in order to get a better understanding of photography as a science. As to photography as an Art, refinement in seeing, composing and processing has been an ongoing process. For, refinement in Art is always a process; never a destination!

For a couple of years, training in photographing with a lens-less pinhole camera (pinhole photography) has helped sharpen the ability to recognize potentially strong compositions. For this purpose, the tool was a camera bodycap with a handcrafted aperture using a 31g insulin needle - aperture diameter approximately 0.26mm - approximate effective flange distance of 40-54mm depending on the body used.

I tend to work relatively very slowly, the reason being, the greatest enjoyment has always happened in the process that goes into composing an image. The preference has always been to use a prime lens - ideally, a focal length "native" to (and practically, as close as possible to) the diagonal of the image recording area - it yields the most natural and realistic angle of view. Besides, it makes the process of composing an image more challenging, more educative, more engrossing, and therefore, most enjoyable! :)

The tendency is towards minimalism in life, and it more or less reflects here. The attempt is to use equipment as basic as possible, and there is much enjoyment in trying to overcome the limitations of the instrument in order to attain the desired results. The preference is to work towards stronger compositions, utilising simple equipment to its fullest. Since am not particular as to what camera to use, anything that is available is fine. Besides, the preference is to use natural light for almost all the exposures - even if it must be artificial light, it is necessarily and always with what is available (i.e. not artificially arranged).

EXPERIENCE:

Majority of my work so far has been:

- Floral studies (intimates, abstracts & portraits) including Tree portraits,

- Landscapes (abstracts, environmental contexts & expanses),

- Innovative studies (abstracts, smoke studies, etc.), and

- Buildings-architecture (abstracts, artistic presentations and documentative representations of exteriors & interiors).

The principle and the preference is to keep processing of images to the minimum. Have never used any of the powerful and potent processing (editing) software that are the norm. Sparingly used processing/editing comprises:

1. Cropping, if required,

2. Desaturating colour to turn a photograph to greyscale, and

3. Adjusting the tones, if required.

Totally abstain from selective editing to the images. Do not know how to use Photoshop, Lightroom and other advanced software, and do not feel inclined towards digital editing which is not otherwise possible in camera.
